In order to prevent roof leaks in your home, you need to know what can cause them!

Hands down, the best way to deal with roof leaks is to prevent them from happening in the first place, but you can’t possibly prevent them if you don’t know what causes them! The good news is that the talented Houston roofers at Space City Roofing are here to save the day! Our experts have come up with this list of the most common causes of roof leaks:

#1. Cracked Flashing

Flashing is designed to seal the areas of your roof that are prone to leaks, like on the joints of your roof and around the chimney. However, flashing doesn’t last forever, and it can corrode over time. Regularly inspect your roof flashing for signs of corrosion.

#2. Improperly Sealed Valleys

If the valleys on your roof are not sealed properly, it can allow rainwater to seep into your roof. If you notice that there are wet spots on the seams of your roof, it could be a sign that your roof valleys aren’t sealed properly or that the seal has corroded because of heavy rain.

#3. Clogged Gutters

Your rain gutters give moisture a way to exit your roof, but if they are clogged with leaves, twigs and other debris, it makes it impossible for that moisture to escape. In order for your rain gutters to do their job, they have to be cleaned and cleared of debris regularly.
